NBA rumors surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers have been all over the place recently. One day, it is reported that general manager Rob Pelinka is ready to shake things up in a big way when it comes to the team’s roster. The next day, it is reported the Lakers like what they have and will stay the course.
Given the ups and downs of the 2023-24 NBA season, it should come as no surprise that the rumor mill has been the same. Los Angeles is expected to contend for the Larry O’Brien trophy as long as LeBron James and Anthony Davis are on the roster, but it is fair to question whether they have enough to do so.
Regardless of what fans or NBA analysts may think, it sounds as if the Lakers believe they have enough to contend. According to Dave McMenamin of ESPN, the team hasn’t gotten close to finishing a trade ahead of the 3 p.m. ET deadline.
That report certainly jives with what Chris Haynes of TNT and Bleacher Report has shared. According to Haynes, the Lakers are probably going to sit out the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline and stay pat with the roster they have.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: LeBron James, Anthony Davis, 2024 NBA Trade Deadline, Los Angeles Lakers Updates
Instead of attempting a quick fix, they are going to wait until the offseason to try and make a splash. At that point, they will have three first-round picks at their disposal to make a trade, not one, and will have a better idea about what the future holds for James.
In the offseason, the pool of available players will also be bigger for the Lakers. A franchise always on the hunt for stars, none have really become available ahead of the deadline this year as teams are looking to make moves more on the margins than shake up the landscape of the NBA.
The Lakers have been playing better basketball recently, winning three straight games. The organization believes there is room for internal growth and development, especially if they can get some of their injured players back on the court sooner rather than later.
