If you’re an NBA fan, it might be difficult to put your phone down now. It’s trade deadline week. Soon enough, we’ll see a flurry of moves that change the landscape of the NBA.
By now, you’re likely familiar with the most popular trade targets. Will Zach LaVine get moved? How about Dejounte Murray? With that said, this year’s deadline is a bit lighter on potential star trades than it has been in years past.
That’s fine. We’ll still see some significant moves on Thursday. Some underrated potential targets could end up on new teams. Here are three that we’ve got an eye on.
Matisse Thybulle
People are talking about the Portland Trail Blazers. They’re waiting for Malcolm Brogdon to get traded. Robert Williams III could be on the move as well. What about Matisse Thybulle?
He’s not a flashy name. Thybulle offers little in terms of offensive creation. Still, he’s an elite defender – and his shooting is rounding into form as well. If a team is looking for a good 3-and-D wing, Thybulle could be someone to keep an eye on.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Matisse Thybulle, Portland Trail Blazers Updates
If he’s even available, that is. Thybulle is young enough that the Blazers could justify hanging onto him. Still, if Portland yearns for assets, he could be an underrated target to keep an eye on.
P.J. Washington
By contrast, PJ Washington is a name that you’ll find in trade rumors. He’s an underrated target in a different sense from Thybulle. Simply put, Washington is an underrated player.
This is a guy who can guard across positions. Washington can man the five and allow a team to play a switch-heavy defensive scheme. While he’s slumping from long range this year, Washington has typically been a reliable floor spacer as well.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: PJ Washington, Charlotte Hornets Updates
None of which has amounted to much for the Hornets. They’re one of the worst teams in the NBA. The Hornets should be sellers at the deadline, and Washington could sneakily be one of the better forwards on the market.
Collin Sexton
Like Thybulle, Sexton may not be on the move. He’s reasonably young, and the Jazz’s future is unclear. Meanwhile, Sexton has been playing like a borderline star from 2023 to 24.
That’s as much of a reason to move him as it is to keep him. The Jazz could justify selling high on Sexton. Keyonte George is younger, and they aren’t necessarily the best fit together.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Collin Sexton, Cleveland Cavaliers Updates
If he’s on the market, he’ll fetch a handsome return. Sexton can create shots for himself and his teammates, and he’s also a plus defender. The Jazz could get a haul for Sexton – if you’re a fan of the team, keep an eye on your phone.
