After the 2022-23 NBA season turned into an unmitigated disaster for them, the Dallas Mavericks have improved this season. They hold a 26-23 record and are in eighth place in the Western Conference, and they’re at least on track to reaching the play-in tournament, something they failed to do last year.
However, the novelty of pairing Luka Doncic with Kyrie Irving has worn off, and it is now time for the team to go places. Its 129-117 loss on Saturday to the Milwaukee Bucks was its eighth defeat in its last 12 games, and the team could use a legitimate third scorer, preferably at the forward position, to take pressure off its star tandem.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Andrew Wiggins, Golden State Warriors, Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks Updates
The Golden State Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins is rumored to be on the trade market, and the Mavs reportedly have more interest in him than other teams across the NBA.
Wiggins was an All-Star starter for the Western Conference two seasons ago, and that year, he played a major role in the Warriors winning the world championship. He has come a long way since he was regarded as a low-efficiency chucker who didn’t play defense back when he was with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
But he has struggled so far this season. His shooting percentages, especially from 3-point range, are down greatly from the past three seasons, and he went 1-of-6 on Saturday in an overtime loss to the Atlanta Hawks before leaving the game late in the first half with a left foot injury.

If Wiggins can rediscover his shooting stroke, he could be a very nice addition to Dallas. In addition to his ability to score, he can run the floor in transition and help his team get easy baskets. He has also become a strong defender, and at 6-foot-7, he could give Dallas some much-needed length in its frontcourt.
