According to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Houston Rockets are open to trading shooting guard Jalen Green.
The Rockets don’t view Green as a building block. The franchise is building around talented big man Alperen Sengun.
The Rockets drafted Green with the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Green, 21, is averaging 18.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 41.4% from the field, 32.5% from beyond the arc and 81.6% from the free-throw line.

Green will become eligible to sign a rookie-scale extension this summer. The Rockets, who are in 11th place in the West with a record of 22-25, have been linked to Portland Trail Blazers guard Malcolm Brogdon, Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela, Chicago Bulls center Andre Drummond and Utah Jazz forward Kelly Olynyk as trade targets.
Green has career averages of 19.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks. He’s a career 41.9% shooter from the floor and 33.6% shooter from 3.
Green is a talented player. He’s just not an efficient scorer. The California native has the fifth-worst effective field goal percentage in the NBA this season and the 25th-worst true shooting percentage.
The Rockets have made aggressive offers to the Brooklyn Nets for Mikal Bridges. However, according to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Nets are not interested in parting ways with Bridges, even if Green is involved in the trade.
