Knicks Land Nets’ Mikal Bridges In Bold Trade Proposal

Mikal Bridges, Brooklyn Nets, NBA Trade Rumors

It’s trade season in the NBA. The deadline is right around the corner. Some teams didn’t wait. They’ve already gotten busy making major moves.

Look at the New York Knicks. This team made one of the year’s biggest deals when they acquired O.G. Anunoby. In return, they sent RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to the Toronto Raptors. Interestingly enough, the Knicks didn’t send the Raptors any draft capital.

That means they’ve still got the ammunition to make another deal. The Knicks look like dark horse contenders in 2023-24. This team could justify making another win-now move.

Could they trade for Mikal Bridges of the Brooklyn Nets?

Brooklyn Nets Receive: G/F Evan Fournier, 2024 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2026 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2028 First-Round Pick (NYK)

New York Knicks Receive: G/F Mikal Bridges

With that said, most teams will hold off until deadline day to make their move. That makes sense. An NBA general manager wants to wait for the best possible deal that they can make.

That’s not the only reason. Teams also want to see how they’re performing before they make moves. They might as well give themselves as much time as possible before blowing up their roster.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Mikal Bridges, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks Updates

Look at the Nets. For some time, this team was looking like a lottery lock. Recently, the Nets have been turning a corner. Should they trade Bridges while they’re making strides?

Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal

It’s debatable. Some Nets fans will be enraged by this suggestion. We understand. Bridges is the best player on the team. Meanwhile, the Nets don’t even control their draft until 2028. Why get worse?

Still – three first-rounders is a lot of draft capital. It feels obvious that the Nets will eventually look to trade for a star. As it stands, they’ll be in the running – but they may not win the race.

There are a handful of teams with a better collection of assets than Brooklyn who could outbid them when that star hits the market. Following this deal, they’d be second only to the Oklahoma City Thunder in draft capital.

They’ll also have a huge market advantage over the Thunder. The Nets could trade for a superstar and then start filling out their roster. Should the Knicks trade for Bridges now?

Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal

Why would the Knicks trade for another wing? If that’s the question you’re asking yourself, you’re not paying attention to the modern NBA. Anunoby is a 3/4, and Bridges is a 3/2. These two wings can easily co-exist.

New York could be the perfect landing spot for Bridges. When he was on the Phoenix Suns, he was arguably the best 3-and-D wing in the NBA. His defense has regressed in Brooklyn. Isn’t that likely due to his increased offensive usage?

On the Knicks, he should be able to find his perfect role. Bridges would be the third option behind Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. That should allow him to refocus on defense and still function as a shot-creator. If this deal is available, the Knicks shouldn’t hesitate to make it.
