According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Darius Garland will return to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ lineup against the Detroit Pistons tomorrow.
Garland has been out since December 14 with a fractured jaw.
Garland is averaging 20.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.2 blocks this season while shooting 47.0% from the field, 34.6% from beyond the arc and 83.5% from the free-throw line. He’s making $34 million.

Garland had his mouth wired shut for four weeks. The All-Star recently had screws taken out of his mouth.
The Cavaliers are 28-16. They are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Garland and Evan Mobley missed time with injuries, but Donovan Mitchell took his game to another level while his co-stars were out, helping Cleveland stay afloat.
Garland has career averages of 18.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.1 blocks with the Cavaliers. He was the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Vanderbilt.
The Cavaliers won 51 games last season but lost to the New York Knicks in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in five games. Some insiders around the NBA believe Cleveland’s front office will break up the team’s core of Mitchell, Garland, Mobley and Jarrett Allen if a deep playoff run doesn’t happen this year.

The 24-year-old Garland signed a five-year, $197 million extension with the Cavaliers in July 2022. He doesn’t hit free agency until the summer of 2028.
