According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Golden State Warriors are expected to re-sign Klay Thompson this summer.

Thompson becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason and Scotto said on his podcast that the Warriors want to re-sign the shooting guard.

“Golden State and Klay Thompson spoke at the beginning of the year, and a deal didn’t get done, so both sides felt it was best to push it off until the end of the season,” Scotto said. “He’s been through the free agency process before, and he stayed. The Warriors want him back, and Thompson seems like he wants to be back.”

Thompson has said many times that he wants to spend his entire career with the Warriors. The five-time All-Star has helped the franchise win four championships.

A future Hall of Famer, Thompson is averaging 17.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.5 blocks this season while shooting 42.1% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 91.0% from the free-throw line. He’s making $43.2 million.

The Warriors are only 19-24 this season. They are in 12th place in the Western Conference standings. If the season ended today, Golden State wouldn’t even be in the play-in tournament.

It will be intriguing to see how the Warriors finish this season out. A team with Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green leading the way can’t be fully counted out since they have so much championship experience.
