The Dallas Mavericks are close. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are one of the most talented duos in the NBA. On that basis alone, this team is in the mix for the NBA title.

Yet, it doesn’t quite feel like the Mavericks are where they’d like to be. It would come as a shock if this team made a championship run in 2023-24. The Mavericks are close – but they’re still a piece away.

What type of piece should they be looking for? Realistically, the Mavericks need a wing. If that player was a versatile offensive player, that would be useful as well. How about Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards?

Here’s the best package that the Mavericks could offer for him.

NBA Trade Proposal: Dallas Mavericks Land Washington Wizards’ Kyle Kuzma

Washington Wizards Receive: C Richaun Holmes, G/F Josh Green, G Jaden Hardy, 2027 First-Round Pick (DAL)

Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Kyle Kuzma

The Wizards haven’t been especially close in a long time. For too long, this organization held off on moving Bradley Beal. Last summer, they finally bit the bullet – and we’re not talking about their previous team name.

The Wizards moved Beal. Arguably, the return was unimpressive. If the Wizards had moved Beal sooner, they may have gotten a larger package. Still, it was smart of the Wizards to finally recognize what everyone else saw – they had to rebuild.

After all, Beal was never a player to build a contender around. By contrast, Doncic is. Meanwhile, Irving is a perfect co-star.

Should the Mavericks add Kuzma to that duo?

Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal

The Mavericks have a lot of needs. This roster feels undercooked. They need a third option, and they also need a defensive wing with plus positional size.

Kuzma offers both. He does a little bit of everything. Kuzma can shoot, defend, and pass. He’s a viable third option, and he won’t hurt Dallas in any one area.

They shouldn’t balk at this price, either. Kuzma will replace Green. Hardy doesn’t seem to be getting opportunities with this team. Giving up an unprotected first is never easy, but with a championship window, the Wizards shouldn’t hesitate.

Should Washington accept that return for Kuzma?

Why The Washington Wizards Do The Deal

In this economy? The Wizards wouldn’t have a choice. As it stands, the NBA is a seller’s market. If the Wizards can get an unprotected first for Kuzma, they need to take the offer and run.

After all, he’s on a long-term deal. That will scare some suitors off. Moreover, getting off of that money is a benefit to the Wizards. So is clearing the runway for the younger players who can be part of the future of this rebuilding team.

Meanwhile, they’re adding some young players as well. Green is a proven commodity – he’s an energetic young 3-and-D wing. Hardy is a shot-creating guard with some star potential. In a few years, they could help the Wizards get closer to their goals.
