The Milwaukee Bucks made headlines for firing head coach Adrian Griffin on Tuesday. More changes may be needed with continued defensive struggles after swapping out Jrue Holiday for Damian Lillard in the NBA offseason.
While the Bucks have been linked as having registered trade interest in Dejounte Murray recently, a more realistic option would be to survey cheap options for a free agent wing with athleticism — one scout told NBA Analysis Network.
“The Bucks are missing size and athleticism on the wing,” one NBA scout told NBA Analysis Network. “They need someone who will knock down open shots, guard multiple positions, and fly around the half-court on defense.”
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Glenn Robinson III, Milwaukee Bucks Updates
One wing that should be on the Bucks’ radar is already in their organization: Glenn Robinson III. The veteran wing has played his first season of professional basketball since being away from the game with Milwaukee’s G League affiliate — the Wisconsin Herd — averaging 10.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 10 games, shooting 52.2 percent from the floor and 43.8 percent from beyond the arc.
“I think the Bucks should try Glenn Robinson III,” the scout said. “He’s already in their organization with the [Wisconsin Herd]. He has looked solid in the games and clips I’ve watched. He’s still the explosive athlete he was before spending time away from the NBA. He’ll hit catch-and-shoot 3s. Good cutter. Really gets out in transition, too. He defends tough matchups without complaining. That guy is well respected as a locker-room personality, too.”
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Glenn Robinson III, Milwaukee Bucks Updates
Given the Bucks’ status as above the $172.3 million first apron, they will be ineligible to sign a player on the buyout market who earns more than the mid-level exception, which limits possible roster improvement mechanisms.
P.J. Tucker was recently floated as a possible trade target for Milwaukee, but he isn’t as athletic or consistent of a shooter as Robinson.
