One of the teams who are looking to be active ahead of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline is the Charlotte Hornets. They are ready to make some moves, as nearly every player on their roster is being made available.

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Hornets’ front office has received influence from ownership to be more active looking to trade away players and receive some long-term assets in return. The only players who won’t be involved in trade talks are LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Mark Williams, three of their most recent first-round picks.

It would make sense that veterans such as Terry Rozier are being made available. Rozier is playing at a high level, albeit for a losing team, and should have some value around the league. Getting back some younger players or draft capital should be the Hornets’ goal in any negotiations involving the combo guard.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Terry Rozier, Charlotte Hornets, Boston Celtics Updates

Could his former team, the Boston Celtics, have some interest in a reunion? According to Brian Robb of MassLive, you can cross them off the list of potential suitors. Robb reported that there is zero interest from the Celtics’ side in a reunion with Rozier.

“The Celtics are not expected to have any interest in Rozier per league sources if the Hornets do elect to move him due to his large salary, which would make salary matching challenging. If Boston makes a move in the coming weeks, look for them to add to their top-6, not subtract from it,” Robb wrote.

Rozier is having the best season of his career, averaging 23.6 points, 6.7 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 35.5 minutes per game. The points and assists are both career highs, as he is playing some efficient basketball this season.

However, the biggest obstacle, as shared by Robb, is Rozier’s contract. He is earning $23,205,221 this season and will see a jump to nearly $25 million next season before having a partially guaranteed deal for the 2025-26 season.

While that isn’t an exorbitant amount of money by current NBA standards, taking on that kind of contract midseason would be difficult for the Celtics. To acquire Rozier, they would almost assuredly have to part ways with one of their current rotation players, such as Derrick White or Jrue Holiday, to match salary.

That isn’t something they are willing or want to do, and rightfully so. However, Rozier is someone the Celtics could end up running into during the NBA Playoffs, as he reportedly is hoping to get traded to the Miami Heat.
