One NBA writer is proposing that the Orlando Magic acquire Keldon Johnson and Doug McDermott from the San Antonio Spurs.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Magic and Spurs:
Orlando Magic Receive: F Keldon Johnson, F Doug McDermott
San Antonio Spurs Receive: C Wendell Carter Jr., PG Markelle Fultz
“McDermott owns a lifetime mark of 41.3 percent from deep and is shooting a career-high 46.5 percent this season,” Swartz wrote in his NBA trade proposal. “Johnson isn’t the outside threat that McDermott is, but he’s a versatile forward who can start or play a sixth-man role and is averaging 17.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists this season while owning a career mark of 36.0 percent from outside the arc.”
McDermott is averaging 6.4 points, 1.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.1 blocks this season while shooting 45.9% from the field, 46.5% from beyond the arc and 66.7% from the free-throw line. He’s making $13.8 million in the final year of his contract.

Meanwhile, Johnson is averaging 17.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.2 blocks while shooting 44.6% overall, 34.6% from 3 and 78.3% from the foul line. He’s making $20 million.
The Magic are 22-18 on the season. They are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Spurs, meanwhile, are 7-32. They have the worst record in the Western Conference.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Spurs are expected to trade McDermott before the February 8 trade deadline. It will be fascinating to see if San Antonio and Orlando do business with each other.
