Nets Reportedly Turned Down Massive Offer For Mikal Bridges

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the teams in the NBA that could look to be sellers ahead of the deadline in just about three weeks. With a 16-23 record, Brooklyn is currently in 10th place in the Eastern Conference and poses very little chance of being contenders this season.

At best, they will be first-round fodder for a top Eastern Conference team, should they even qualify through the NBA Play-In Tournament. After their Big 3 era with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden came to a bumpy close, the team entered a bit of a rebuild.

One of the cornerstones of that rebuild has been Mikal Bridges. Acquired from the Phoenix Suns as part of the Durant blockbuster, the Nets have expanded his role more than he has ever had previously in his NBA career. He has been the Nets’ No. 1 option and the results have been less than stellar.

With the team dropping in the standings, many wondered if Bridges was a player the Nets would entertain trading. Based on a recent report shared by Brian Lewis of The New York Post, Bridges isn’t going anywhere.

“But Nets sources confirmed the team did reject an offer of four first-round draft picks for Bridges, and Hoopshype has since reported that said offer came from the Memphis Grizzlies,” wrote Lewis.

If the Nets are turning down trade offers that include four first-round picks for Bridges, it is safe to say that he isn’t going anywhere. That kind of offer has become the asking price for established All-Stars and All-NBA Team performers, neither of which Bridges has achieved, at least not yet.

But, it also provides some insight into the Nets’ thinking with the direction of the team. They do not want to trade their best and most valuable player, signaling to people around the NBA and their fans they are going into a full teardown.

That isn’t something Brooklyn wants to do or plans to ever do. But, if they continue to have middling production on the court and don’t start winning some games, their course of action will have to change.
