According to NBA insider Marc J. Spears of Andscape, the Atlanta Hawks realize the pairing of Dejounte Murray and Trae Young “isn’t working.”

The Hawks are actively looking to trade Murray, who has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs and Brooklyn Nets.

“The Hawks have come to the realization that the pairing of Murray and two-time NBA All-Star Trae Young isn’t working, a league source told Andscape,” Spears wrote. “The Hawks are in the exploratory phase of trading Murray, who is getting strong interest due to his play on both ends, great image and manageable contract.”

The Hawks are 16-23 on the season. They are in 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings. If the regular season ended today, Atlanta wouldn’t even be in the play-in tournament.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, Atlanta Hawks Updates

Young and Murray are 50-54 in the regular season. The Hawks went 41-41 last season and lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in six games. Murray signed a four-year, $114 million extension in July, but all signs point toward the one-time All-Star getting moved soon.

Murray is averaging 20.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks this season. The Washington product is shooting 46.7% from the floor, 38.6% from 3 and 82.1% from the free-throw line.

Murray is making $17.7 million this season. He will make $24.8 million in 2024-25 and $26.8 million in 2025-26. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Murray’s agent. Since Paul represents Lakers superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, many people around the NBA believe Murray will get traded to Los Angeles.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, Atlanta Hawks Updates

Murray has career averages of 14.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Spurs and Hawks. Young and Murray were projected to be one of the best duos in the NBA when Atlanta acquired Murray from San Antonio in June 2022, but things haven’t worked out.
