An NBA dynasty is not easy to build. Sure, the league’s history is filled with dynasties. If you look closely, you’ll see that it’s much more common for a team to try to build a dynasty and fail.

That’s what makes the Golden State Warriors’ most recent run so impressive. This has been an undeniable dynasty. With that said, it may be coming to an end in 2023-24.

The Warriors are below .500. At this point, they may not even make the playoffs – yet alone win another NBA championship. At one time, the San Antonio Spurs arguably had a dynasty of their own.

The Spurs’ success was unique: they never won back-to-back titles, but they won 5 championships between the late ’90s and early-to-mid 00s.

With Victor Wembanyama on the roster, they’ll be hoping to build a new dynasty soon. Could they start by acquiring Chris Paul from the Warriors?

NBA Trade Proposal: San Antonio Spurs Land Golden State Warriors’ Chris Paul

Golden State Warriors Receive: F Doug McDermott, G Devonte’ Graham, G/F Cedi Osman

San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Chris Paul

Never mind a dynasty – building an NBA champion is difficult enough. There’s plenty of debate about the best way to build a champion. Are the Spurs following the right blueprint?

Drafting Wembanyama was quite a start. Still, there’s debate about what the Spurs ought to have done next. It seems as if this front office prioritized landing another lottery pick.

The Spurs don’t want to win games in 2023-24. That’s fair. On the other hand, it seems to be wearing thin on Wembanyama.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Chris Paul, Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs Updates

Some would make the case that the earlier you can get a star prospect playing competitive basketball, the better it will be for their development.

Would Paul help the Spurs start winning some games?

Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal

We think so. Paul is nearing the end of his career, but he can still organize an offense. In all likelihood, his presence would make the Spurs a marginally better team.

With that said – Paul is nearing the end of his career. He’s not going to lift the Spurs into the playoffs singlehandedly. San Antonio will still land a lottery pick following this deal.

The Spurs would value Paul for his veteran mentorship above all else. He can teach these kids how to play winning basketball. He’s also on an expiring contract. That’s not a huge advantage for San Antonio.

McDermott and Osman are on expiring deals as well. Still, shedding Graham’s salary will help their flexibility in the upcoming offseason. Should the Warriors take his deal on?

Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal

What’s Golden State’s problem? Above all else, they’re lacking depth. The Warriors don’t have many reliable players outside of Steph Curry. The rest of their dynastic core is beginning to age, and their young players don’t look ready to contribute on a championship level.

Granted, they could find better players than the collection of role players they’re landing here. On the other hand, it will cost them more.

It’s been reported that the Warriors don’t love the idea of moving Jonathan Kuminga. If that’s true, they’ll have to fork over control of their draft for the foreseeable future to bring in a star.

Wouldn’t a trio of role players help? McDermott is one of the best shooters in the NBA. Osman is a decent 3-and-D wing. Graham can roughly replace Paul’s production at this stage of their career. This deal should make the Warriors a better team – whether it extends their dynasty or not.
