NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports told Nick Angstadt on the “Locked On Mavericks” podcast that the Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors have discussed a Pascal Siakam trade.

Fischer said there are people in the Mavericks organization who believe Siakam could be the missing piece to a championship.

“I can definitely say that there’s been conversations,” Fischer said. “I know that to be true and I know there are absolutely people in Dallas who really think Pascal is a missing piece that could potentially pair with Luka and Kyrie Irving. And all of a sudden, you look up and the Mavericks are a legitimate contender in the West.”

The Mavericks would have a lethal “Big 3” of Siakam, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving if Dallas’ front office figured out a way to acquire Siakam from Toronto.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Pascal Siakam, Dallas Mavericks, Toronto Raptors Updates

One of the best forwards in the NBA, Siakam is averaging 22.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 52.5% from the field, 30.8% from beyond the arc and 75.4% from the free-throw line. The two-time All-Star, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, is making $37.9 million.

The Mavericks are 23-16 this season. They are in seventh place in the Western Conference standings. With Doncic and Irving leading the way, Dallas is seventh in the NBA in points per game. The team would certainly become more explosive on offense if Siakam was on the roster.

Since Siakam becomes a free agent after this season, teams want assurances from the NBA champion that he will re-sign with them before trading for him. No team wants to give up assets for a player who could be a rental.
