The NBA trade deadline will be here before we know it. Around the league, there are some well-known trade targets. Perhaps none are as well-known as Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors.

Siakam may be the biggest fish on the market. In all likelihood, you’ve heard of some potential suitors. The Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, and Atlanta Hawks are all said to be in pursuit of Siakam. Will any of those suitors step up and make a reasonable offer?

We’ll see. The Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton may be seriously injured. The Hawks may opt for more future-focused moves. Meanwhile, we’ve already heard that negotiations between the Kings and Raptors have broken down.

Could a dark horse suitor emerge for Siakam?

Detroit Pistons

OK, fine – maybe the Detroit Pistons aren’t dark horse suitors for Pascal Siakam. They’ve been linked to him before. We’re not the first to suggest that they could look to make a move for the Raptors’ star wing.

At the same time – this would be crazy, right? The Pistons are the worst team in the NBA. Conventional wisdom dictates that they shouldn’t be looking to make win-now moves.

The Pistons are dark horse suitors in the sense that they’d be breaking from NBA norms in acquiring Siakam. Still, they could be desperate enough to make the move.

The Pistons have the assets. They could decide that they’ve tried rebuilding for long enough, and at this point, they should simply get some good players. If they decide on a different course, is there a win-now team who could make a move for Siakam?

Oklahoma City Thunder

In some respects, the Oklahoma City Thunder feels like a perfect suitor for SIakam. They’ve got more than enough assets. The Thunder are stacked at every position besides Siakam’s.

This team could use a two-way wing, and the Thunder seemingly covets playmaking like Siakam’s at every position. With that said, they may not make the move.

General manager Sam Presti is on record as saying that the Thunder won’t rush into anything. This team seems to like what they have – and fair enough. The Thunder are one of the best teams in the NBA.

Still, there’s no doubt that Siakam would make them better. Meanwhile, general managers are known to mislead rivals intentionally. Keep an eye on the Thunder – but at the same time, keep an eye on this next team as well.

Brooklyn Nets

The Detroit Pistons are a long shot. The Thunder seem like a clear fit. By contrast, the Brooklyn Nets are somewhere in the middle. We can justify this deal for Brooklyn, but at the same time, we can talk ourselves out of it as well.

This team isn’t very good. One could make the case that the Nets are in no position to give up assets for a win-now player like Siakam. Fair – but the Nets are in no position to rebuild, either.

After all, they owe the Houston Rockets control of their draft for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, the Nets would at least be a playoff team after adding Siakam. At the moment, he’s likely the best player on the trade market.
