At some point, we’ve all felt buyer’s remorse. You’re even using that thing – why did you buy it? NBA teams are no different. They may feel like they spent a lot of assets on a player they shouldn’t have acquired in the first place.

Yet, a team could feel seller’s remorse as well. They may move a player and miss them shortly after. Perhaps they didn’t need them then – but they could use them now.

Could the San Antonio Spurs be feeling seller’s remorse over Dejounte Murray? We’re not sure. Still, reports have suggested that the Spurs could be interested in reuniting with Murray. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks are likely feeling some buyer’s remorse.

Could these two sides really do last summer’s trade over?

NBA Trade Proposal: San Antonio Spurs Land Atlanta Hawks’ Dejounte Murray

San Antonio Spurs Receive: G Dejounte Murray

We’ve seen players reunite with teams before. When a player is on a team, they build relationships. There’s no reason to assume that a team there’s bad blood between a player and a team when they split up.

With that said, we don’t usually see it happen just a year later. When a team trades a player, it typically means that they don’t see an immediate future with them. This would be unorthodox, to say the least.

At the same time, nothing is too crazy to happen in the modern NBA. The rules have changed. We can’t rule out a reunion between Murray and the Spurs.

Should the Hawks facilitate that reunion?

Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal

Sure. After all, the Hawks should have never traded for Murray in the first place. His fit alongside Trae Young never made sense. These two players are optimized with the ball in their hands.

With that said, the Hawks won’t get everything that they gave up for Murray back. The league’s trade market has changed. The Spurs won’t send them three unprotected firsts for Murray.

Still, getting control of their own 2025 first-rounder back gives the Hawks the flexibility to tank next season if it isn’t going their way.

Finally, there’s another reason why the Hawks are getting less draft capital back here – Johnson is good. He’s also younger than Murray. Johnson could usurp De’Andre Hunter in Atlanta’s rotation as their starting 3.

Should the Spurs give him up?

Why The San Antonio Spurs Do The Deal

The Spurs shouldn’t regret parting with Murray. In doing so, they were able to tank for Victor Wembanyama. In all likelihood, they never would have landed the generational prospect if they’d kept Murray on the roster.

With Wembanyama secured, the calculus changes. The Spurs may feel that, with their franchise player in tow, it’s time to shift back to win-now mode.

If that’s the plan, the Spurs will need a starting-caliber point guard. Why not Murray? When he was last in San Antonio, he was among the best defensive guards in the NBA.

Murray is also a capable playmaker who can space the floor alongside Wembanyama. If the Spurs reunited with him, they might not be remorseful for long.
