Dynasties are not built to last. That’s true in the NBA as well. We’ve seen dynasties throughout the history of the league. Eventually, they all fall.

That time may be coming for the Golden State Warriors. This team has been in the midst of a dynastic run. In 2023-24, it looks like that run has ended. The Warriors are mediocre, and with this roster, it’s difficult to see how they’ll improve.

At least they had their run. The Charlotte Hornets have struggled to find any type of success behind LaMelo Ball.

Could sending Gordon Hayward to the Warriors help?

NBA Trade Proposal: Golden State Warriors Land Charlotte Hornets’ Gordon Hayward

Charlotte Hornets Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, G/F Moses Moody

Golden State Warriors Receive: F Gordon Hayward

What’s the problem in Charlotte? This team has the talent – why are they losing games annually? Is there anything that they could learn from the Warriors?

Well, it may be that the Hornets are suffering a culture problem. This team waived Kai Jones – a first-round pick – for his off-court behavior this year. They could have justified doing the same with Miles Bridges – he’s returning from a suspension for domestic assault.

At the same time, a notable Warrior is serving his suspension. The Warriors have been putting up with Draymond Green’s off-court antics for years. The Warriors’ real advantages may be roster construction and talent.

Does this deal improve their roster?

Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal

In all likelihood, yes. Wiggins has declined in 2023-24. He’s still a passable defender and floor spacer, but he can’t seem to get his own shot off this year.

By contrast, Hayward can still create offense. He should give this team’s attack a new wrinkle. Hayward’s ability to score and make plays will make the Warriors a better team. Moreover, getting off of Wiggins’ long-term deal is an advantage.

On the other hand, parting with Moody stings. That’s the thing about trades – they have to benefit both sides. The Warriors are flipping a long contract for an expiring one, getting a better player in the process, and losing Moody.

Should the Hornets accept the same trade?

Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal

Wiggins’ deal isn’t optimal. Still, it’s not among the worst in the NBA. If he could return to his form from two seasons ago, suddenly, he may be compensated properly.

Either way, that’s not the point here for the Hornets. They’re flipping Hayward for Moody. Hayward is on an expiring deal – he’s going to walk next summer. With that in mind, getting a quality young player for him would simply be good business.

Make no mistake: Moody is a quality young player. He’s a do-it-all wing who can shoot, defend and make plays. He could be part of this team’s core for the foreseeable future. Who knows? The Hornets could eventually build their dynasty.
