Pistons Land Blazers’ Anfernee Simons In Bold Trade Proposal

Anfernee Simons, Portland Trail Blazers, Detroit Pistons, NBA Trade Rumors

The Detroit Pistons have got problems. Arguably, no team in the NBA has more issues. The Pistons are the worst team in the NBA. They were the worst team in the NBA last year. Like we said, they’ve got problems.

Ordinarily, this wouldn’t be a problem. Rebuilding teams lose games. In this case, Detroit’s rebuild has been going on for too long. This team hasn’t been relevant in almost two decades. The Pistons are rebuilding from another era of failed contention.

Everyone’s got a solution. Some will suggest that the Pistons need to cut their losses and play the lottery again next summer. Others will say that they need to make a win-now trade by now.

Could they split the difference by acquiring a young star who fits with them? How about Anfernee Simons of the Portland Trail Blazers?

NBA Trade Proposal: Detroit Pistons Land Portland Trail Blazers’ Anfernee Simons

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: G/F Joe Harris, C James Wiseman, 2025 First-Round Pick (DET), 2027 First-Round Pick (DET)

Detroit Pistons Receive: G Anfernee Simons

A team like the Blazers should be keeping an eye on the Pistons. What went wrong? How can we learn from it? After all, the Blazers are in the infancy stages of their rebuild.

What can they learn? It seems that Detroit has stockpiled lottery picks that don’t make sense together. The lesson may be that roster construction has to be considered when drafting.

On the other hand, some will argue that it should never matter in the lottery – you take the best player available and sort out the roster later.

Fair. Still, it feels like it’s time for the Pistons to go ahead and sort out their roster. The pieces on this roster don’t fit. Is Simons a better fit for the Pistons?

Why The Detroit Pistons Do The Deal

We think so. What’s the problem with this roster? Above all else, it lacks shooting. Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, and Jaden Ivey are all dynamic players, but none excel in that aspect of the game. The Pistons need floor spacing.

Simons can provide it. He’s one of the best shooters in the NBA. Offensively, it’s hard to imagine a better fit alongside Cunningham. Defensively, Simons can struggle, but he ought to find more success alongside a big guard like Cunningham.

That’s not to say that this is a no-brainer. The Pistons could hesitate to give up unprotected picks that land shortly. That’s fair, but this is an opportunity to improve their roster while adding a player who’s still young. That feels like a trade worth making.

Can we say the same for the Blazers?

Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal

The Pistons may be feeling a sense of urgency. On the other hand, the Blazers have time. This team is a few years away from worrying about their progress.

With that said, they can start projecting the future fit of their roster. As it stands, there could be some problems. Shaedon Sharpe is likely best suited to play the two.

Scoot Henderson is the point guard of the future. Where does that leave Simons? Do the Blazers want to lean on three-guard lineups?

It could make sense to move Simons simply. If the Blazers agree, taking a flyer on Wiseman makes sense. Still, the Blazers make this move for a pair of unprotected firsts above all else. Hopefully, this deal will solve more problems than it causes.
