Best Trade Knicks Can Offer Timberwolves For Karl-Anthony Towns

Karl-Anthony Towns, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, NBA Trade Rumors
NBA Analysis Network

The New York Knicks are interested in Karl-Anthony Towns. This is one of the most poorly kept secrets in the NBA. Reports constantly indicate that the Knicks want to trade for the Minnesota Timberwolves star.

Why would the Wolves move him? That’s a different question. This team is at the top of the Western Conference. As it stands, it feels unlikely that Minnesota would move their long-time star big man.

That doesn’t seem to change the Knicks’ interest. In all likelihood, they won’t be able to trade for Towns this season. Still, this is the best offer they could make for him.

NBA Trade Proposal: New York Knicks Land Minnesota Timberwolves’ Karl-Anthony Towns

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: F Julius Randle, G/F Evan Fournier, 2025 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2027 First-Round Pick (NYK)

New York Knicks Receive: F/C Karl-Anthony Towns, F Kyle Anderson

With that said, the Knicks’ interest in Towns is a rumor. It could be entirely false. We shouldn’t fall victim to believing everything we hear.

What makes us so sure that this is a poorly kept secret – and not a smoke screen? Well, the rumors are persistent. They don’t seem to stop. There’s another applicable cliche here: where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

At some point, we have to assume that the Knicks’ interest in Towns is real. That doesn’t mean that it makes any sense. Towns and Randle are not a good fit. Randle is playing well in 2023-24.

Should the Knicks even trade him?

Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal

Not necessarily. We’re not confident in this deal. How much of an upgrade is Towns over Randle? Should the Knicks attach assets to Randle’s deal just to bring Towns on board?

We’re not sure. At the same time, it’s worth noting that Towns is a far better shooter than Randle. Adding him should open up their offense.

Meanwhile, we’ve seen this year that Towns can survive on defense alongside a drop coverage rim protector in Rudy Gobert. So, the Knicks should be able to pair him with Mitchell Robinson when he returns from his injury.

Who knows? The Knicks may feel that the floor spacing advantage posed by Towns is worth the cost of a pair of first-rounders.

If so, they’ll like this deal. Should the Wolves like it?

Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal

The Timberwolves have looked like the best team in the NBA in 2023-24. Are we confident that this is going to last into the playoffs? Will the Wolves’ jumbo frontcourt eventually get exploited by a downhill guard?

We’re not sure. In all likelihood, it would be smart for the Wolves to find out. This team should probably hang onto Towns and see how this year’s postseason goes. Still, we can justify this deal.

After all, they’re bringing in another dynamic offensive talent in Randle. Moreover, they’re adding a pair of unprotected first-round picks.

If this deal is on the table, the Wolves would have to at least consider it – and by all accounts, it is.
