One NBA writer is proposing that the Los Angeles Lakers acquire Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks and Garrett Temple from the Toronto Raptors.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Lakers, Hawks and Raptors:
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Dejounte Murray and Garrett Temple
Atlanta Hawks Receive: Pascal Siakam, Dennis Schröder and Max Christie
Toronto Raptors Receive: D’Angelo Russell, De’Andre Hunter, Taurean Prince, a top-10 protected 2029 first-round pick from Los Angeles and a 2029 first-round pick from Atlanta
The Lakers are interested in acquiring Murray from the Hawks. Murray has a close relationship with LeBron James and Murray, LeBron and Anthony Davis are all represented by the same agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group.
“Murray’s only made 35.6 percent of his threes since the start of last season, but he’s in the midst of his third straight campaign with 20-plus points per game,” Bailey wrote in his NBA trade proposal. “He’s a dramatically better defender than D’Angelo Russell, and he at least has some experience playing off the ball from his time alongside Trae Young. In L.A., he’d almost always be facing the opposition’s third or fourth best defender too, depending on how opponents feel about Austin Reaves. In that role, Murray would be free to focus on defense and attacking closeouts.”

Murray is averaging 20.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 46.1% from the field, 38.3% from beyond the arc and 81.7% from the free-throw line. He’s one of the top two-way players in the NBA.
The Lakers could potentially start Murray, Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, LeBron and Davis if Los Angeles general manager Rob Pelinka figured out a way to acquire Murray from Atlanta. Temple is mostly in this trade proposal for salary-matching purposes.

The Lakers are only 17-17 on the season. They are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. It will be fascinating to see if Pelinka makes a blockbuster trade this season.
