Life has been difficult for teams in the NBA’s Western Conference over the last decade. Unless you’re the Golden State Warriors, that is. In that event, life has been a breeze.
Although, it’s starting to get harder. The Warriors are having a difficult season. This would have to happen eventually. This team is aging, and by now, it’s looking like they may be aging out of their dynasty.
At least they had their run. We can’t quite say the same for the Portland Trail Blazers. They advanced to the Western Conference Finals just once throughout that same decade. Now, the Blazers are rebuilding.

Do Blazers fans feel like the Damian Lillard era was a failure? In all likelihood, that depends on their perspective. Different fans will have different standards for success or failure.
The Blazers were competitive for as long as they had Lillard. This team was always a threat to win 50 games. With that said, they never felt like championship hopefuls, either. Again – whether that’s a successful era or not depends on your point of view.

Still, it feels likely that the Blazers would like their next era to be more successful. That’s a reasonable expectation with young talent like Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, Anfernee Simons, and Deandre Ayton on their roster.

Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal
The Blazers’ collection of young talent is strong, but it’s unbalanced. Of the four players that we just named, three are guards – and frankly, Ayton is the least exciting prospect of the group. More significantly, none of them are wings.
Sure, Sharpe can play the 3. Is that his ideal position? The Blazers will have some difficult questions to ask themselves about their roster construction soon. Still, one thing is clear right now – this team could use some young wing depth.

So, Moody would be a perfect acquisition. He’s a do-it-all wing who can shoot, pass and defend. Moody could be a core member of this team for years to come. Should the Warriors part with him?
Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal
The Warriors’ situation is also subject to one’s perspective. They could accept that they’re finally ready to look to the future. In that event, they wouldn’t like this deal. The Warriors would want to hang onto Moody.
With that said, this team still has a title window. Steph Curry still looks like Steph Curry. The Warriors could be a major piece away from getting back to the NBA Finals.

Grant could be that piece. He’s a versatile defensive wing who can create his own shot. In some respects, he’s the player that Wiggins was supposed to be for Golden State this year. If the Warriors acquire Grant, they could make life difficult on the Western Conference once again.
