One NBA writer is proposing that the Oklahoma City Thunder acquire Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns.

Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade idea between the Thunder and Suns:

Oklahoma City Thunder Receive: Kevin Durant

Phoenix Suns Receive: Josh Giddey, Luguentz Dort, Davis Bertans, Cason Wallace, 2024 First-Round Pick 1-4 Protected (HOU), 2024 First-Round Pick (LAC), 2025 First-Round Pick (MIA), 2027 First-Round Pick (DEN)

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski said on Christmas that Durant is frustrated with his situation with the Suns. In the wake of Woj’s report, Bitar proposed that the Thunder bring back one of the best players in franchise history.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Kevin Durant, Phoenix Suns, Oklahoma City Thunder Updates

“Start with Kevin Durant. You talk to people in Phoenix and around that organization, you know, they can feel the frustration with Durant,” Wojnarowski said. “Part of that, certainly, is the missed games for Brad Beal. This team was built around those three stars. The underwhelming supporting cast, that comes from those massive trades for Durant and Bradley Beal that really gutted the organization and let them having to sign a lot of minimum players to fill out the payroll.”

Durant played the first nine seasons of his NBA career with the Thunder. He used to be beloved in OKC, but everything changed when the future Hall of Famer signed with the Golden State Warriors in 2016. Durant is now heavily booed whenever he plays in OKC.

But just like Cleveland Cavaliers fans accepted LeBron James back in 2014, Thunder fans would do the same with Durant. OKC would have a deadly “Big 4” of Durant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams if the Thunder’s front office figured out a path to acquire Durant from the Suns.

Durant is averaging 30.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.9 assists this season while shooting 51.9% from the field, 46.7% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line. The 13-time All-Star and two-time Finals MVP is seventh in the NBA in total points and sixth in points per game.

If the Suns can’t get their season on track before the trade deadline in February, the Thunder should offer a grandfather package for Durant to bring the Texas product back where his career began.
