Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors to their fifth consecutive win with a 126-106 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers during Saturday’s NBA action. Thompson scored 28 points, continuing his streak of scoring at least 20 points in the last five games, while Curry added 27 points.

The Warriors, bolstered by the Splash Brothers’ combined 22 points in the third quarter, established a 12-point lead entering the fourth. Thompson’s performance included 11 consecutive points, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers. Coach Steve Kerr attributed Thompson’s recent success to improved shot selection, enhancing the team’s overall efficiency.

“I think over the last five games, he’s just taking better shots,” Kerr said. “And as a result, our team is more settled. We just feel like we’re operating more efficiently.”

Curry praised Thompson for his ability to find good looks and let the game come to him, a key factor in the team’s current winning streak. This streak has propelled the Warriors to a 15-14 record, putting them over .500 for the first time since early November. The team now looks forward to a Christmas Day game against the defending champion Denver Nuggets.

“Consistently, the ball is moving, he’s finding good looks — and that’s the Klay Thompson we know,” Curry said.

The Warriors have dominated the Trail Blazers this month, with two previous wins on December 6 and 17. In this latest matchup, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Brandin Podziemski further solidified the Golden State lead in the fourth quarter, contributing 15 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Podziemski has been on a roll, achieving a streak of at least 10 points, five rebounds, and five assists in six consecutive games.

“Marquee game on Christmas, it’s going to be a great atmosphere,” Curry said. “We’ve been in that environment before, so understanding what it’s going be like on the road.”

Kerr noted the effective balance between the team’s young talent and veteran players, which has helped the Warriors navigate injuries and build a deep, complementary roster.

“The balance feels right,” Kerr said. “We’ve got a lot of options every night at our disposal as a staff and a lot of good players, so we’re able to survive injuries like we’ve done. But the group just feels right. We’ve got a really deep roster and guys who complement each other well.”

Anfernee Simons led the scoring with 25 points for the Trail Blazers, coming off a season-high 41-point game. However, the Trail Blazers, missing Shaedon Sharpe due to injury, have struggled recently, losing nine of their last ten games. Chauncey Billups recognized the difficulty in sustaining early momentum against the Warriors, who excelled in rebounding and put-backs.

“That team, they just kept wearing on you, kept getting rebounds, kept getting put-backs,” Billups said. “It was tough.”

Looking ahead, the Trail Blazers will host the Sacramento Kings, while the Warriors face a challenging matchup against the Denver Nuggets.
