The Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and Miami Heat have been linked to a Donovan Mitchell trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to NBA insider Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

The Nets, Knicks and Heat would be interested in acquiring Mitchell if the Cavaliers made the All-Star shooting guard available in trade talks.

Mitchell has a player option worth $37 million for the 2025-26 season. He has already stated that he won’t sign an extension with the Cavaliers this year.

“My job is to focus on this,” Mitchell said, via NBA reporter Joe Vardon of The Athletic. “We have two guys that are out, so I’m not answering anything. And no disrespect. I appreciate that you have to ask the question, but I’m not going there with any of those questions. My focus is on these guys being out, us trying to find a way to get wins.”

Mitchell thought he would get traded to the Knicks in the summer of 2022, but the Utah Jazz sent him to the Cavaliers. The Heat and Nets also spoke with the Jazz about acquiring Mitchell, who was born and raised in New York.

One of the top scorers in the NBA, Mitchell is averaging 27.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists this season for the Cavaliers while shooting 45.3% from the field, 35.1% from beyond the arc and 88.7% from the free-throw line.

The Cavaliers aren’t expected to trade Mitchell this season. Most NBA observers believe Cleveland will rebuild and trade Mitchell after this season if the team doesn’t go on a deep run in the 2024 playoffs.
