According to NBA insider Matt Moore of The Action Network, the Brooklyn Nets are a team to look out for in the Donovan Mitchell trade sweepstakes if the New York Knicks can’t acquire the Cleveland Cavaliers star.
In November 2020, Mitchell signed a five-year, $163 million extension with the Utah Jazz. He’s making $32.6 million this season and will make $34.8 million in 2024-25.
Mitchell has a player option worth $37 million for the 2025-26 season. He has already stated that he won’t sign an extension with the Cavaliers this year.
“Everyone expects, and has expected, Donovan Mitchell to leave the Cavs in free agency,” Moore wrote in his NBA trade intel column. “There’s conflicting belief about whether or not Mitchell has informed the Cavs of anything regarding his future. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has reported for months going on years that Mitchell will not re-sign with Cleveland. One name I heard from multiple sources to look out for if the Knicks can’t get a deal done for Mitchell is the always-star-shopping Brooklyn Nets, who have a plethora of assets to get such a deal done.”
