Lakers Win In-Season Tournament, LeBron James Named MVP

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers in the In-Season Tournament Championship Game by a final score of 123-109. Anthony Davis had 41 points, 20 rebounds, five assists and four blocks, while LeBron James poured in 24 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

The Lakers went undefeated during the In-Season Tournament. They beat the Phoenix Suns (twice), Memphis Grizzlies, Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz, New Orleans Pelicans and Pacers.

LeBron, who is the oldest player in the NBA, was named the In-Season Tournament MVP.

“I don’t think it’s even about the MVP. It’s about us coming together to win this thing,” LeBron told ESPN’s Malika Andrews during the trophy ceremony. “This is the [inaugural] in-season tournament. … Records will be broken, but one thing that will never be broken is to be the first to do something. And we’re the first champions of the in-season tournament, and nobody can ever top that, and it’s great to do it with a historical franchise and just a great cast of funny, engaged, competitive men over here.”

The In-Season Tournament Championship Game didn’t count on the Lakers’ record or stats, so Los Angeles is still 14-9 on the season.

LeBron, 38, is averaging 25.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.6 assists this season. The four-time MVP and four-time Finals MVP is shooting 55.3% from the field, 40.7% from beyond the arc and 71.7% from the free-throw line.

The Lakers are back in action on December 12 when they take on the Dallas Mavericks. LeBron and Co. are 0-1 against the Mavericks this season.
