Immanuel Quickley becomes an unrestricted NBA free agent after this season and there are two teams the New York Knicks have to watch out for. According to NBA insider Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports, the Orlando Magic and San Antonio Spurs could “swipe” Quickley.

“The trend is to play hardball with restricted free agency, but it could be a mistake, the Knicks playing hardball with him,” one Eastern Conference executive told Heavy Sports. “Two reasons for that, really: The Spurs and the Magic. They need a young point guard. And they’re both in a good spot to swipe him.”

According to NBA insider Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks and Quickley’s camp never got over the hurdle of the structure of a potential deal, which is why Quickley and New York didn’t reach an agreement on a rookie-scale extension.

One offer made to Quickley was not fully guaranteed, giving the Knicks a team option in the contract. There were no incentives included in the talks, per Begley.
