The New York Knicks have not engaged in any advanced talks with the Chicago Bulls about trading for DeMar DeRozan or Zach LaVine, according to Ian Begley of SNY.
The Bulls are expected to trade both LaVine and DeRozan before the February 2024 trade deadline and the Knicks are monitoring the marketplace for a star. However, it doesn’t appear New York has eyes for LaVine or DeRozan.
LaVine is averaging 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists this season while shooting 44.3% from the field, 33.6% from beyond the arc and 86.6% from the free-throw line. According to Stefan Bondy of The New York Post, LaVine’s camp would prefer not to get traded to the Knicks. LaVine is represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group and the Knicks are led by Leon Rose, who used to run CAA.

Meanwhile, DeRozan is averaging 21.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 45.3% from the floor, 37.3% from 3 and 81.8% from the foul line. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Knicks and Miami Heat are known to be preferable to DeRozan if he winds up getting traded.
LaVine has career averages of 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Bulls, while DeRozan has career averages of 21.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.0 assists with the Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs and Bulls.

The Knicks are 12-8 on the season. They are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Most people around the NBA believe New York needs one more star next to Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle to seriously compete for a championship.
