The Golden State Warriors are open to keeping Chris Paul beyond this season for the right price, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Paul is making $30.8 million this season. His salary for next season is non-guaranteed.
The Warriors acquired Paul from the Washington Wizards this past offseason. Paul is averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.3 assists this season while shooting 39.9% from the field, 32.8% from beyond the arc and 92.9% from the free-throw line.
“If you get a chance to play long enough in your career, there’s things that’s going to change, there’s things that’s going to be different and I’m here,” Paul told Warriors reporters last month about coming off the bench for the first time in 19 years.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Chris Paul, Golden State Warriors Updates
After losing to the Sacramento Kings on November 28, the Warriors dropped to 8-10 on the season. Paul appeared to tweak something late in the first quarter. He was seen stretching near the scorer’s table before the quarter break and then limped to the locker room.
The Warriors said Paul was dealing with lower left leg soreness. The future Hall of Famer has suffered many injuries during his career. Paul, 38, is one of the best players in NBA history to have never won a title.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Chris Paul, Golden State Warriors Updates
Paul’s salary for next season will probably not be guaranteed by the Warriors since it’s worth $30 million. However, we could see Golden State re-sign Paul to a cheaper deal depending on how the rest of this season goes.
