Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson doesn’t care what his critics are saying about him.

The four-time champion, who hasn’t shot the ball well this season, sent a strong message to his naysayers.

“I don’t care what people say,” Thompson said. “It’s like, they don’t do what we do. They can’t do what we do. That’s why they talk. Why would I? Like, come on. I don’t care what people say at this point in my life, ha! Next question.”

Thompson is averaging 15.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Warriors this season while shooting 40.2% from the floor, 36.7% from beyond the arc and 87.5% from the free-throw line. He has scored 20 points only two times.

“But thank (Warriors head coach) Steve (Kerr), I guess, I don’t know,” Thompson said. “Sometimes you earn these things, like patience and time to find yourself. I think history is on our side when it comes to that stuff.”

Thompson is in the final year of his contract. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season, and according to Kendra Andrews of ESPN, Thompson’s contract negotiations with the Warriors are weighing on him.

“But Thompson’s slump to start this season feels different,” Andrews wrote. “His contract negotiations are weighing on him, sources told ESPN, and he appears to be noticeably more frustrated during games. He sometimes sits on the end of the bench by himself during timeouts, or slaps his head after taking a bad shot. At the end of the first half of Friday’s win over against the San Antonio Spurs, Thompson threw his towel in frustration after picking up his second personal foul and then exited the court to the locker room before the half finished.”

The Warriors are 8-9 on the season. They don’t look like title contenders right now, but that could change if Thompson finds his groove.
