Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler will not play against the Milwaukee Bucks tonight.
Butler is dealing with a right ankle injury.
Butler has appeared in 14 games for the Heat this season. He’s averaging 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 46.2% from the field, 41.5% from beyond the arc and 87.7% from the free-throw line.

The Heat are 10-7 on the season. They are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Along with Butler, Miami will be without Tyler Herro against the Bucks. Herro is still recovering from his own ankle injury.
Butler joined the Heat in the offseason of 2019 as part of a sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. The All-Star is averaging 21.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.8 assists as a member of Miami. The Heat have reached three conference finals and two NBA Finals in the Butler era.
Butler agreed to a three-year, $146.4 million veteran contract extension with the Heat in August 2021. The Marquette product is making $45.2 million this season and will make $48.8 million in 2024-25.
Butler has a player option worth $52.4 million for the 2025-26 season. He becomes extension-eligible again next offseason. The swingman has career averages of 18.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists with the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Sixers and Heat.

According to Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Butler will look “for an extension soon enough, in essence asking for something even beyond Jaylen Brown money.” Brown signed a five-year, $304 million supermax extension with the Boston Celtics this past offseason. It was the richest contract in NBA history.
