After missing two months last season due to a personal matter, Andrew Wiggins didn’t take the time necessary during this past offseason to get back into shape ahead of this season. His lack of physical conditioning annoyed some within the Golden State Warriors organization, according to Kendra Andrews of ESPN.

Wiggins ranks last in the NBA in effective field goal percentage on jump shots among players with at least 75 attempts, per Second Spectrum. The swingman is also second-worst in free throw percentage among qualified players, ahead of only Denver Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon.

Wiggins is averaging 11.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists for the Warriors this season while shooting 41.7% from the field, 25.5% from beyond the arc and 56.3% from the free-throw line.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Andrew Wiggins, Golden State Warriors Updates

Wiggins has scored over 20 points just once this season. The Warriors are 8-9 and don’t look like title contenders. Wiggins has to find his shooting touch sooner rather than later. Otherwise, the Warriors will continue to struggle to win games.

Wiggins helped the Warriors win the 2022 title over the Boston Celtics in six games. He signed a four-year, $109 million contract extension in October 2022. The Kansas product is making $24.3 million this season.

Wiggins has career averages of 18.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Warriors. He’s one of the most talented scorers in the NBA but hasn’t been able to find his groove yet this season.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Andrew Wiggins, Golden State Warriors Updates

It will be fascinating to see if Wiggins snaps out of his funk for the Warriors. If the forward continues to struggle, Golden State may have to trade him.
