Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma understands what guard Jordan Poole is going through.
After being the third option on the Los Angeles Lakers behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Kuzma became a primary option with the Wizards and initially struggled.
Kuzma has settled in nicely with the Wizards, but Poole is struggling to make shots now that he’s the focal point of opposing defenses.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Poole, Washington Wizards Updates
“It’s tough when you’re coming from being a third or fourth option. I can speak on this because I’ve done it,” Kuzma said. “You’re coming into a new situation and where you’re more of a focal point, it’s tough sometimes. That’s a lot of responsibility. You have to be able to obviously produce at a high level, but get your teammates involved, too.”
Poole is averaging 17.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Wizards, which are solid numbers. However, the former Golden State Warriors guard is shooting only 39.9% from the field and 28.6% from beyond the arc.
“I’ve seen a lot of coverages, a lot of different coverages. It’s honestly really cool. It just makes you learn as a player, it makes you grow, go back and watch film,” Poole said.
