After the Golden State Warriors beat the Houston Rockets on November 20, Chris Paul compared himself to Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, two of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.

Paul has enjoyed playing with Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson because he knows all he has to do is pass the ball to them and let the champions do what they do best.

“If you think about Peyton Manning and Tom Brady-type quarterbacks who got these elite receivers, for me, it’s so fun,” Paul said. “Bringing the ball up the court knowing you got Klay, Steph, you know what I mean? Like some of the passes I’m throwing, you’re throwing it before they even get there and they catch it and they shoot and they still make it.”

In his first season with the Warriors, Paul is averaging 9.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.7 assists while shooting 39.8% from the field, 32.8% from beyond the arc and 91.7% from the free-throw line.

“I try to make smart decisions and whatnot, but also make a conscious effort to push the ball and get the ball up the court so that it is balanced,” Paul said. “It is kicking it ahead, it is trying to put plays together. It is like a quarterback that doesn’t want to throw interceptions, especially when you have the shooters and scorers that we have on this team.”

Paul has 115 assists and only 18 turnovers on the season. The future Hall of Famer’s scoring numbers are down, but he’s still one of the best passers in the NBA.
