Los Angeles Clippers guard Russell Westbrook didn’t speak to the media after the first game he came off the bench versus the Houston Rockets. However, the future Hall of Famer did talk to reporters after his second game as a reserve against the San Antonio Spurs.

“Just going out and doing whatever’s best for our team to be able to win games,” Westbrook said. “And that’s it.”

The Clippers are 2-0 since Westbrook requested to come off the bench. Westbrook is averaging 9.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a reserve while shooting 30.0% from the field, 28.6% from beyond the arc and 50.0% from the free-throw line.

“It’s an adjustment period for him,” Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue said. “Being a starter with PG and Kawhi, it’s a little different, but he’s come along great and it’s good.”

Westbrook is averaging 13.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists on the season. His numbers and usage rate have dropped since James Harden joined the team.

“I think it’s gonna take time,” Clippers star Kawhi Leonard said. “Everybody’s in a new role. Not just me, the guys that were playing are not playing now. And then the guys that were playing a lot of minutes are playing less minutes. So I think he’s getting it. But we still need time and consistency and just playing with one another.”
