One NBA writer is proposing that the Miami Heat acquire Klay Thompson from the Golden State Warriors.
Eddie Bitar of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade idea between the Heat and Warriors:
Miami Heat Receive: Klay Thompson
Golden State Warriors Receive: Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson, 2024 First-Round Pick
Thompson has struggled for the Warriors this season. He’s averaging 14.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 40.0% from the field, 33.0% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat Updates
One of the best shooters in NBA history, Thompson hasn’t scored 20 points once this season. The four-time champion is in the final year of his contract and the Warriors are not expected to sign him to an extension, which means Thompson is headed for unrestricted free agency next offseason.
The Heat, who are 0-2 in the NBA Finals in the Jimmy Butler-Bam Adebayo era, could start Tyler Herro, Thompson, Butler, Kevin Love and Adebayo if Miami’s front office figured out a way to acquire Thompson from Golden State.
It’s possible a change of scenery could unlock Thompson’s shooting. The guard appears to be pressing too much with the Warriors. He’s not taking good shots and is trying too hard to shoot himself back into games.
Thompson is the second option on offense on the Warriors behind Stephen Curry. He may not be able to be a reliable second option anymore. Injuries and age have caught up to the five-time All-Star and Thompson may be better suited to be a third or fourth option.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat Updates
On the Heat, Thompson would be behind Herro, Butler and Adebayo on the “scoring options” hierarchy. Thompson, who wants to retire with the Warriors, may need to think about leaving Golden State to produce like a starter again.
