Report: Daniel Theis Gets Bought Out By Pacers, Plans To Sign With Clippers

Daniel Theis has agreed to a contract buyout with the Indiana Pacers and plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers once he clears waivers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Theis hasn’t played for the Pacers this season and the Clippers need a big man since Mason Plumlee will miss several weeks with a knee injury.

After the Pacers lost to the Boston Celtics on November, 1, Theis expressed his displeasure with the role he had.

“Obviously, after a great summer, I’m not happy with the situation I’m in right now,” Theis told Brian Robb of MassLive. “I want to play and take all the good stuff from the summer into the season, but it’s a long season. We are going to see what’s going on and what’s happening.”

Theis played well this past summer for Germany in the FIBA World Cup. He was looking forward to helping the Pacers win games this season.

The 31-year-old Theis has career NBA averages of 7.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.9 blocks with the Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets and Pacers. Theis is making $9.1 million this season.

The Clippers are 3-7 on the season. They are currently on a six-game losing streak. Los Angeles is 0-5 with James Harden in the lineup. The team lost to the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies and Denver Nuggets.

Harden, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and Ivica Zubac are the five starters for the Clippers. Once Theis joins the team, the Salzgitter native will be behind Zubac in the rotation.
