One NBA writer is proposing that the Los Angeles Lakers acquire DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Lakers and Bulls:

DeMar DeRozan for D’Angelo Russell, Gabe Vincent and a 2030 first-round pick

The Bulls are expected to tear down the roster if they continue to struggle. DeRozan, who was born and raised in California and grew up a Lakers fan, is in the final year of his contract.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: DeMar DeRozan, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers Updates

The Lakers could start Austin Reaves, DeRozan, Jarred Vanderbilt, LeBron James and Anthony Davis if Los Angeles’ front office figured out a way to acquire DeRozan from Chicago.

DeRozan has a relationship with LeBron and Davis. The USC product met with the Lakers stars in the summer of 2021 at LeBron’s house and thought he would sign with the purple and gold as a free agent.

However, after the Lakers acquired Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards, DeRozan joined the Bulls.

A six-time All-Star, DeRozan is one of the best mid-range shooters in the NBA. He’s averaging 22.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season while shooting 45.1% from the field, 36.4% from beyond the arc and 83.6% from the free-throw line.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: DeMar DeRozan, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers Updates

A “Big 3” of LeBron, Davis and DeRozan would look good on paper. However, games aren’t won on paper. They’re won on the basketball court.

LeBron and Davis would have to alter their games a little bit to play with DeRozan since the former Toronto Raptors star is used to having the ball in his hands a lot too.

It will be fascinating to see if the Lakers make a trade this season. They don’t look like a title contender at the moment, so general manager Rob Pelinka may have to go shopping on the trade market.
