
Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone has agreed on a contract extension that will make him one of the NBA’s highest-paid coaches, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Malone guided the Nuggets to the 2023 championship. He has a close relationship with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. Denver beat the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat in the 2023 playoffs.
Jokic has won two MVPs and one Finals MVP while playing for Malone. The Nuggets have the second-best winning percentage in the NBA since the 2018-19 season, trailing only the Milwaukee Bucks, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Malone is third all-time in games (647) and wins (375) among Nuggets head coaches, trailing Doug Moe and George Karl.

Malone has coached the Sacramento Kings and Nuggets. He is 414-339 in the regular season and 37-31 in the playoffs.
The Nuggets are looking to become the first team since the Golden State Warriors to win back-to-back championships. The Warriors won back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. The Nuggets have started this season 8-2. They are tied with the Dallas Mavericks for the best record in the Western Conference.
Jokic is averaging 29.8 points, 13.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists on the season while shooting 60.6% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc and 75.4% from the free-throw line. He is the best player in the NBA. Many pundits believe Jokic could win his third MVP this season.
