One NBA writer is proposing that the Los Angeles Lakers acquire DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso and Andre Drummond from the Chicago Bulls.
Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Lakers and Bulls:
DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso and Andre Drummond for D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura and Jalen Hood-Schifino
“DeRozan would give the Lakers another end-game scorer, but he’s never been known for his outside shot and his best days as a defender are behind him,” Pincus wrote. “Potential fit aside, his age may make him gettable for L.A. Additionally, the Lakers’ backcourt defense hasn’t been the same since parting with Alex Caruso.”
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: DeMar DeRozan, Alex Caruso, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers Updates
DeRozan is from California and grew up a Lakers fan. He thought he would sign with the Lakers in the summer of 2021, but Los Angeles traded for Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards and didn’t have enough money left to sign DeRozan, who went to the Bulls in a sign-and-trade deal with the San Antonio Spurs.
The Bulls could move their veteran players if the team doesn’t have a good record near the February trade deadline. The Lakers are interested in DeRozan, Caruso and Zach LaVine, a league source told NBA Analysis Network.
The Lakers could start Gabe Vincent, Caruso, DeRozan, LeBron James and Anthony Davis if Los Angeles’ front office figured out a way to acquire Caruso and DeRozan from Chicago. Caruso helped the Lakers win the 2020 championship, while DeRozan has a relationship with LeBron and Davis.
