One NBA writer is proposing that the Los Angeles Lakers acquire Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks.
Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Lakers and Hawks:
Trae Young, Bruno Fernando and Wesley Matthews for D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, Taurean Prince, Jalen Hood-Schifino and a 2029 first-rounder
Young “has long been” on the Lakers’ trade radar, according to Jovan Buha of The Athletic. Young, who attended two Lakers games in the 2023 playoffs, is represented by Omar Wilkes of Klutch Sports Group, the same agency Los Angeles stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis are with.

Young signed a five-year, $215.2 million extension with the Hawks in August 2021. He’s making $40.1 million this season.
A Texas native, Young is averaging 24.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 10.1 assists this season while shooting 35.6% from the field, 28.8% from beyond the arc and 89.7% from the free-throw line.
The Lakers could start Young, Austin Reaves, Jarred Vanderbilt, LeBron and Davis if Los Angeles’ front office figured out a way to acquire Young from Atlanta.
Young has career averages of 25.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists. The 25-year-old is “open” to getting traded to the Lakers in the future if the Hawks decide to move him, a league source told NBA Analysis Network.

“Trae hasn’t requested a trade from the Hawks,” the source said. “I want to make that clear. He likes playing with Dejounte Murray. He can see what Quin Snyder brings to the table. But if the Hawks decide to tear this thing down and start fresh, he’s definitely open to going to Los Angeles and playing with LeBron and AD.”
