One NBA writer is proposing that the New York Knicks acquire Joel Embiid from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Knicks and Sixers:
The New York Knicks receive Joel Embiid and Marcus Morris Sr.* from the Philadelphia 76ers for RJ Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, Immanuel Quickley, Julius Randle, 2024 first-round pick (via DAL; top-10-protected), 2025 first-round pick (via MIL; top-four-protected), 2025 first-round pick, 2027 first-round pick, 2029 first-round pick
The Knicks are willing to offer the Sixers a package that includes Randle, Barrett, Evan Fournier and Robinson for Embiid, according to NBA reporter Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer. New York has made acquiring Embiid its No. 1 priority.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Joel Embiid, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers Updates
Knicks president Leon Rose used to be Embiid’s agent at CAA. Some NBA execs think Embiid could request a trade from the Sixers next offseason if the team doesn’t go on a deep playoff run this year. Philadelphia hasn’t gotten past the second round of the playoffs in the Embiid era.
The Knicks could start Jalen Brunson, Quentin Grimes, Josh Hart, Fournier and Embiid if New York’s front office figured out a way to acquire Embiid from Philadelphia. Embiid won the MVP Award last season. He averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.7 blocks.
The 29-year-old Embiid has gotten off to a strong start this season. He’s averaging 32.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 6.2 assists while shooting 53.5% from the field, 42.9% from beyond the arc and 82.8% from the free-throw line. The six-time All-Star scored 48 points on November 6 against the Washington Wizards.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Joel Embiid, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers Updates
The Knicks need a superstar next to Brunson if they want to win their first NBA title since 1973. Rose should be doing everything in his power to bring Embiid to The Big Apple.
