Pelicans’ Zion Williamson To Miss Game Vs. Timberwolves

The New Orleans Pelicans will be without Zion Williamson on November 8 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Williamson won’t play due to personal reasons. The All-Star has appeared in six games this season, averaging 21.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists while shooting 50.5% from the field and 60.5% from the free-throw line.

The Pelicans are 4-3 on the season, while the Timberwolves are 4-2. It will be interesting to see if New Orleans can upset Minnesota without Williamson.

Williamson suffered a massive cut on his right thumb in the Pelicans’ loss to the Denver Nuggets on November 6. The lefty finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists versus Denver while shooting 10-of-22 from the field. The Pelicans got blown out by the Nuggets, losing by 18 points.

The Pelicans drafted Williamson with the first overall pick in the 2019 draft. New Orleans has made the playoffs once in the Williamson. era. The team lost to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2022 postseason in six games. Williamson didn’t play in that series due to an injury.

During an interview with Joe Mistretta of ClutchPoints, Pelicans shooting guard CJ McCollum was asked to give his thoughts on Williamson, who is healthy again after only playing 29 games last season. McCollum believes Williamson can win the MVP Award, among other accolades.

“I’m unsure what his ceiling is, but I think his ceiling is definitely All-Star, MVP, All-NBA First-Team,” McCollum said about Williamson. “Which is as good as it gets. So I’d say he’s as good as it gets when he’s healthy and is able to put together a full season, so I’m looking forward to seeing him do just that.”
