The 2023-24 NBA regular season has not gotten off to a strong start for the Sacramento Kings. After surprising everyone by earning the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference and winning the Pacific Division last season, the Kings have limped out of the gate.

At 2-4, they are tied for the second-fewest amount of wins in the NBA with the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons. A big reason for those struggles has been having to play without All-Star point guard, De’Aaron Fox.

Fox has played in only three games thus far this season and has been excellent when on the court. He has averaged 31.3 points with 6.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 35.3 minutes per game. Fox also has a strong shooting slash of .486/.375/.810.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: De’Aaron Fox, Sacramento Kings Updates

Unfortunately for Mike Brown and the Kings, they are going to be without his services for at least one more game. According to James Ham, a Kings beat writer, Fox is set to miss his fourth consecutive game because of his ankle. He is going to be joined on the sideline by Trey Lyles for tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

That is a tough blow for the Kings, who have gone 0-3 thus far this season without Fox in the lineup. They suffered a one-point loss to the Golden State Warriors in the first game without him before getting blown out in back-to-back games by the Houston Rockets, losing by 18 and 25.

Without Fox in the lineup, the team’s offensive production has fallen off a cliff. The Kings are averaging only 95.7 points per game in their last three outings after averaging 125.3 points per game in the first three with Fox playing.

Brown and his staff will have to figure out a way to jump-start the offense without their leading scorer. That is easier said than done as Fox is the main cog in their offensive attack. The next highest scorer on the team currently is Domantas Sabonis, who is averaging only 15.88 points per game.
