One NBA writer is proposing that the Philadelphia 76ers acquire Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons in a realistic deal. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Sixers and Pistons:

Philadelphia 76ers receive: Alec Burks

Detroit Pistons receive: Nicolas Batum, Jaden Springer, 2024 second-round pick (via NYK), 2028 second-round pick and 2029 second-round pick (via LAC)

The Sixers traded James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers for Batum, Kenyon Martin Jr., Marcus Morris and Robert Covington. Buckley thinks Philadelphia could benefit from adding a cost-effective role player like Burks.

“He is out of place as a veteran on the rebuilding Pistons, but his skill set could really boost a contender like the Sixers,” Buckley wrote in his NBA trade column. “Even if he primarily functioned as a three-and-D swingman, he could ace that role. He compiled a 41 percent three-point splash rate over the past three campaigns, and his defensive box plus/minus was in the green for two of those seasons.”

Burks is averaging 15.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists this season while shooting 43.6% from the field, 53.8% from beyond the arc and 80.0% from the free-throw line. The 32-year-old is better suited to play for a playoff team since the Pistons are still rebuilding.

The Sixers, who have started the season 4-1, could start Tyrese Maxey, Burks, Kelly Oubre Jr., Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid if Philadelphia’s front office figured out a way to acquire Burks from Detroit.

Burks becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season. He has career NBA averages of 10.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Burks played 18 games for the Sixers during the 2019-20 season, so he’s familiar with Philadelphia.
