Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards is working hard to be less “selfish” this season. The 22-year-old admitted that he’s sometimes too focused on how many points he scores instead of doing all the little things it takes to win a basketball game.

“Starting with myself, just can’t come out being selfish, worrying about however many points I wanna score,” Edwards said, via The Athletic. “Just playing within the game, playing within the flow, I think that’s the main thing with me. I be worried so much about scoring and how many points I got and how many points I’m tryin’ to get instead of just worrying about the little things, rebounding, boxing out, getting back on D.”

Edwards is averaging 26.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 0.8 steals through the first five games of this season while shooting 50.0% from the field, 53.6% from beyond the arc and 81.8% from the free-throw line. The Timberwolves are 3-2.

To be a complete player, Edwards is determined to develop his midrange game since he knows he can’t always shoot 3s or get to the rim in the fourth quarter.

“It’s super important because in the fourth quarter you can’t always get to the paint, and they’re going to run you off the 3-point line,” Edwards said. “So you have to have an in-between game.”

The Timberwolves signed Edwards to a five-year, $205 million extension this past offseason. Edwards would have become a restricted free agent next offseason if the Timberwolves didn’t sign him to an extension. The franchise was never going to let that happen.
