One NBA writer is proposing that the Dallas Mavericks reunite with Dorian Finney-Smith. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets:

Dallas Mavericks receive: Dorian Finney-Smith

Brooklyn Nets receive: Jaden Hardy, Richaun Holmes and 2026 first-round pick (top-five protected)

The Mavericks traded Finney-Smith to the Nets last season in the Kyrie Irving trade. Buckley thinks Dallas should reunite with the swingman since the team is 19th in the NBA defensive efficiency.

“That’s why a reunion with Finney-Smith—one of the primary pieces in that Irving exchange—could be in the works,” Buckley wrote in his NBA trade column. “He is an all-purpose stopper with the kind of low-maintenance, catch-and-shoot-heavy offensive game that would fit perfectly with Dallas’ high-scoring guards.”

Finney-Smith is averaging 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists for the Nets this season while shooting 54.8% from the field, 48.9% from beyond the arc and 33.3% from the free-throw line.

Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic remains close friends with Finney-Smith. Dallas could start Doncic, Irving, Finney Smith, Grant Williams and Dereck Lively II if Mavericks owner Mark Cuban figured out a way to acquire Finney-Smith from the Nets.

The 30-year-old Finney-Smith has career NBA averages of 8.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists with the Mavericks and Nets. It will be very fascinating to see if Finney-Smith is traded again this season. The Florida product was adored by his Mavericks teammates when he played in Dallas.

At 5-1, the Mavericks don’t necessarily need to make a trade. However, since their defense has been so poor, the Mavericks would be wise to explore a Finney-Smith trade.
