Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has scored 117 points through the first three games of this season. Doncic’s 117 points through three games are the most by a player since Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry during the 2015-16 NBA season.

The Mavericks have started the season 3-0. They have defeated the San Antonio Spurs, Brooklyn Nets and Memphis Grizzlies. Doncic is averaging 39.0 points, 11.7 rebounds and 9.7 assists while shooting 55.6% from the field, 48.6% from beyond the arc and 70.4% from the free-throw line.

Curry won the 2015-16 MVP Award in unanimous fashion. It will be interesting to see if Doncic wins his first MVP Award this season.

“It’s a great start,” Doncic said after the Mavericks beat the Grizzlies. “We know we have a lot of games left, but it’s always (nice) to have a great start.”

Despite having Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks didn’t even qualify for the play-in tournament last season. Doncic and Irving are under a lot of pressure to gel this season and lead Dallas back to the postseason.

If Doncic makes an All-NBA team this season, he would become eligible to sign a five-year, projected $318 million supermax extension in 2025. Doncic signed a five-year, $215.2 million designated rookie contract extension with the Mavericks in August 2021.

The 24-year-old Doncic has career averages of 27.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.0 assists with the Mavericks. According to Doncic’s Slovenian teammate Mike Tobey, the Mavericks point-forward is “really taking care of his body” and has improved his nutrition.

“I’d say I feel he’s a little bit more rested,” Tobey said, via Cesare Milanti of Eurohoops.net. “He looks fresh and in shape, he’s really taking care of his body and himself a lot more seriously this summer. You can tell it by his nutrition, by how he looks: he’s in a lot better shape. I really see a big step forward in that part of his professionalism. He seems to be more focused.”
