The Golden State Warriors are considered a landing spot for NBA veteran Blake Griffin, who is currently an unrestricted free agent.
Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report thinks the Warriors could use Griffin, who played for the Boston Celtics last season.
“Griffin was a solid veteran piece for the Celtics last season, even averaging 8.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 52.2 percent overall and 38.8 percent from three in his 16 starts,” Swartz wrote. “The 34-year-old is a smart passer and able three-point shooter, which would fit well with the Warriors system.”
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Blake Griffin, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics Updates
Griffin averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists for the Celtics in 2022-23 while shooting 48.5% from the field, 34.8% from beyond the arc and 65.6% from the free-throw line in 41 games. The Oklahoma product has career averages of 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 765 games with the Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets and Celtics.
The Warriors, who lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games, have Draymond Green, Dario Saric and Jonathan Kuminga at the four spot, so they don’t “need” Griffin. However, if one of those three players gets hurt, the Warriors would be thin in the frontcourt.
It will be fascinating to see if Griffin gets signed by the Warriors or any team. There were rumors that the former superstar was thinking about retiring from the NBA, but Griffin hasn’t officially called it quits yet.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Blake Griffin, Golden State Warriors, Boston Celtics Updates
Griffin has a rapport with Green, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Chris Paul, the four most important players on the Warriors. That could come into play if Golden State shows interest in Griffin.
